Kohleria "Designer's Evening Gown" in 2014

I grow this variety every year and I usually grow more than 2 pots because the flower is big and chic meanwhile the plant is not bulky as well as big-sized Kohleria. Many buds were faded due to strong light and heat in early spring this year, but it did fine after I moved it to shaded area. The flower color kept nice but less quantity. Hopefully it could be well-demonstrated in the next year.

Gesneriads in Kota Padang, Sumatera Barat

I did not expect to see Gesneriad plants when I visited Kota Padang in early April because I stayed in the city and did not arrange any mountain hiking there. One day in the morning, I walked along the street to find my breakfast and I noted this Episcia grows freely near the ditch ...

Another day, I followed my local friend and went to his college called "Universitas Andalas". I took a short look around the plants in this college, I found a Gesneriad plant on a tree trunk, it's an Aeschynanthus species. It's a pity that there was no flower to tell what it is. Next time I will plan a trekking to see more Gesneriad plants of Sumatera.

Baby Seedlings

Check below photos, could you tell the baby seedlings between mini Sinn. and Smithiantha ?

Almost nothing to do during hot summer time (the truth is if I do, I do it in vain), therefore I normally sow seeds of Gesneriads because the baby seedlings are easier to handle at this moment (only my personal opinion). Just two key points, to avoid direct sunlight and stuffy environment. After the growth for 2 or 3 months, the seedlings will be big enough to be repotted in the autumn which is the temperate season for growing up.

Back to the topic, the answer is the above is mini Sinn and the below is Smithiatha. :)
