Sinn. Amizade

This fuzzy plant is a nice F1 hybrid between Sinn. hirsuta and Sinn. kautskyi. This is the second flowering in this year, I found the color is a little paler comparing to the first flowering in the spring.

Aeschynanthus sp. in Crocker Range

I had a self-service trip in the state of Sabah, Malaysia at the end of August, this place is famous for its various endemic flora and fauna. Although the territory of Sabah keeps under exploitation so far, visitors still can find the interesting nature in some reserved areas.

I found this Aeschynanthus sp. on my way back to Kota Kinabalu, the capital city of Sabah while the van went through the Crocker Range. This plant is totally out of my knowledge of Aeschynanthus species, so I don't know the ID. I can only see it's a bit different from the current known Aeschynanthus species, as for the name ... it will be very appreciated if any one may know the answer. :-)

Sinn. Windsor's April

This Mini-Sinn. shows a compact foliage but extreme flower in large size. The clear-cut color is also adorable. One more feature is worth to be mentioned, the flower keeps almost the same size in summer, just the color becomes lighter than it does in spring. A Windsor's hybrid.

Sinn. aghensis x conspicua

Mr. WSL is a taiwanese who made many interesting Sinningia crosses, including this Sinn. aghensis x conspicua. This seedling is scented with a fresh/sweet aroma.

My version, the salmon-orange Mini-Sinn.

I've tried several times to make a unfading salmon-orange Mini-Sinn. that also features large and fully open bloom, but no success before. (many so-called salmon-orange Mini-Sinningias turn to pale or nearly white when the temperature gets hotter)

The concern is to combine both shape and color, beside these, I also prefer it to be with better growth and blooming characters. It's not easy to have all features happened in a cross, so I made several "bridge" crosses over years and firstly let salmon-orange color accumulate through these crosses and enhance the transformation of the flower shape. Because in my experience, the direct offsprings from current named parentage don't properly fit all features that I'm looking for.

some "bridges" to the salmon-orange Mini-Sinn. that I've made

About 2 years ago, I picked out the offsprings which are qualified with their "bridge" mission (I supposed) and made a cross with hope. The result was positive although there were still many pink items but few with salmon-orange color. As far as I can see the background genes of these Mini-Sinn. were already varied through the process of the "bridge" hybirdization, it's hard to predict how the genes will be re-combined.

I keep those salmon-orange items under estimation until now. It seems the salmon-color doesn't turn to pale when my growing area is 40 degrees C in average in summer. The strategy of color accumulation seems to work fine at this stage. This is important because if it doesn't fade during hot weather, the salmon-orange will be even vivid when the temperature drops down. And the shape is fully open, size is 2.5 to 3cm showing in different seasons. The growth and blooming characters are ok so far.

The kept salmon-orange Mini-Sinn. seedling. The flower on the left is a dropped flower but fresh, can see the color doesn't change until end of life. Photo was taken in 28th July, 2012

The flower on the right is another seedling from the same cross but shows pinkish-orange form. Photo was taken in 5th August, 2012
