I have no ideal what is this variety but it's a real beauty.

This April is a bit cooler but it's getting warmer. Except the blooming Smithiantha, the other plants are also showing unique looks in my garden.

Unpredictable Spring

About 4 seasons in a weekend, sometimes cloudy, rainy and sunny ... unpredictable. It's the season full of flowers but easily damaged by the extreme weather.

Commercial Lipstick Plant

This is the most common lipstick plant that we can buy in local flower market. On the other hand, it means it features the characters that a commercial variety should have. Easy to grow and pretty appearance.

Time for Chinese New Year and it's also the time for the beginning of flowering season.

Aeschynanthus

Usually they bloom in the early spring only.

Aeschynanthus from the public flower market

I bought this plant a few months ago in the local flower market, it may be a hybrid. The flowers are coming soon. The good thing is the small leaves that make it a neat and compact hanging plant. 

Aeschynanthus tricolor x pulcher

A lovely F1 hybrid, the stripe pattern follows Aeschynanthus tricolor but the size of flower is much bigger. The blooming season is earlier than Aeschynanthus tricolor which usually blooms in February in Taiwan.

Mine is in bloom recently, the flower is not shiny like its foliage but still adorable for its unique color in the family of lipstick plants. My friend saw it was sold like a wild collected plant in the flower market of Bangkok, Thailand, may be just for it's remarkable foliage.

Aeschynanthus tricolor

I met this lipstick plant in the wild many times, and I still find it is cute as usual. Aeschynanthus tricolor grows as epiphytes on tree trunk or rock along the river bank in the tropical low land of Sabah, Malaysia. Flowering in the rainy season, so it's often to see the seed pod as well.

Eastern n' Western

The eastern Aeschynanthus plays the similar biologic role as the western Columnea does. So they have similar requirements for habitat and they also look like each other. I had a chance to visit a nursery and luckily I saw them both in bloom.

Aeschynanthus evrardii

This is a hot-warm growing Aeschynanthus with upright and spreading habit ... unlike those hanging lipstick plants. The dazzling orange flower cluster emerges in summer, the flower itself is long-lasting.

Last time I was here without seeing any color due to it's dry season, this time I see the cloudy forest is decorated with lovely red flowers which seems floating through the cool breeze and moss. It's my second time to Doi Inthanon and I was there for a full day to visit the national park. The habitat of Aeschynanthus lineatus is 1800 meters above sea level. It's cool , not cold in summer ... good place to cool down the spirit by listening the bird's singing after shower.

Aeschynanthus chinanthus "Thai Pink"

I guess this lipstick plant was sold firstly to commercial flower market in Thailand under the variety name "Thai Pink" only. But Thailand is not the origin habitat of this pink Aeschynanthus. I ever saw a similar pink lipstick plant was found in Luzon, Philippines from a research ... so the known habitat of this lipstick plant may be Philippines so far. Anyway, Aeschynanthus chinanthus stands out with its pink color from the family of red. Aeschynanthus in Asia shares the similar ecological role as the Columnea in America, I believe there are many unknown species waiting for exploration.
