I'm late but the timing is perfect to welcome the green sprouts.

Smithiantha "Seeker's Yuletide Star"

It may be out of fashion due to the large plant size but I was used to grow them every year, just to see the shinning blooms upon the attractive foliage.

 

It's cold but colorful

It's winter now, the weather is cold and grey (lack of sunshine) here in Taipei. Fortunately we have colorful Smithiantha to brighten up our greenhouse.

Right time for Smithiantha

Winter is coming here , the best time of the Smithiantha in the subtropical Taiwan. Cool to warm during the day but a bit cooler at night, the plant thrives.

The end of August

Hopefully next month will be cooler, then the colorful blooming season of Smithiantha can be expected.

Smithiantha after cold snap

The growth of Smithiantha doesn't stop and keep blooming although the temp. dropped down to Celsius 6 degrees during the past week.

Early bird

It just took about 2 months from rhizome to flower, I did not look forward to seeing the blooms quickly while others still grow normally.

The end of 2020

I will agree that the world has changed a lot in this COVID-19 year. Many things that we think it's normal ... but we can't take them for granted anymore.

Season of Smithiantha

Yes, repotting Smithiantha is finished a couple weeks ago and the shoots are thriving. I did not harvest the rhizomes this year, just let them stay in the pots during the dormancy period. It seems ok and will be easier in taking care of Smithiantha in the future.

The number one news recently is the Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia (COVID-19) ... for safety reason, it's better to stay at home and take care of plants. Hopefully the disease will be controlled and our life will be back on track.

Foliage Variation

After a few months , the Smithiantha grows up day by day. It's the best time to enjoy the variation of foliage before the flowers emerge. The brightness and contrast of the veins are super during this period.
