Nice Foliage

I am happy to offer the seeds for people who are willing to grow them. I do not have time to take care new plants by myself and it's good to co-work with others. The Kohleria seedlings with stable silver foliage is my last cross with Kohleria and I'm glad to see the foliage which is in accordance with my cross target. The pity is the color of the flower, not many for selection as they are limited in certain color.

Glad to know this miniature Kohleria does well in aircon room in Singapore. It seems my previous assumption is right that it blooms well when the growing condition is stable. So far, this is the smallest Kohleria hybrid that I got from my seedlings over years. The variety name "Designer's Formosa Taiwan" is named after my beloved mother island "Taiwan" or so-called "Formosa" (it means beautiful) when Portuguese sailors saw and called my island for the first time in 16th century because of the beautiful landscape.

The plant in the photo started from rhizomes about 6 months ago. Due to the influence of diverse weather in spring in Taipei, Taiwan, the flower size/shape/color are not conformable as you can see from the photos. I believe it will perform well under stable weather conditions.

  

Season change

A famous phrase of Chinese literature vividly describes the season change by observing the nature, the rough translation could be "When spring warms the flow, ducks are the first to know". Now I copy this concept and say "When the autumn cools the air, the CATs are the first to know". CAT (in Chinese) is the nickname of Kohleria that we call it in Taiwan. :-) Yes, last weekend I noticed the rhizome of Kohleria started to sprout. Good to breathe the air of autumn !

I grow this variety every year and I usually grow more than 2 pots because the flower is big and chic meanwhile the plant is not bulky as well as big-sized Kohleria. Many buds were faded due to strong light and heat in early spring this year, but it did fine after I moved it to shaded area. The flower color kept nice but less quantity. Hopefully it could be well-demonstrated in the next year.

It's glad to see Designer's Helloween blooming again, it almost died out last year but finally I got 2 survivals in this blooming season in the end of March.

Except Sinn. speciosa "Regina" - São Fidelis (should be easy to find where it is :P) , these photos reveal my prejudice when making cross between Kohleria plants and the prior elements of Kohleria seedling selection in 2013.

Kohleria that fits Christmas

It's just cold during these days, although it doesn't snow here but the chilly temperature does make people feel like it's the Christmas season. I'm developing some of my latest Kohleria hybrids to be mature plants in the coming spring, they are reflecting the silver sheen which also fits this time of year. Merry X'mas !

I love the color patterns of the Kohleria's leaves, so that I looked forward to the diversity since I did cross in 2009. It is an addiction about enjoying a plant from the sprout to the final bloom, the more you see, the more you want. I just like it in this way. :-)
