Under natural weather condition, May should be the last bloom season of Streptocarpus here in Taiwan. This year I won't have cooling equipment for Streptocarpus, hopefully they pass through this summer in the new plant house.
My friend Daniel grows this "Feathers on Ice"
My own hybrid
Gloxinella lindeniana , good-looking foliage and the flower is also cute but only lasts for few days. The recent bloom of mine.
vivid red tube, no pollen
darker red dots/lines densely spread on the petals
records of 5 buds per leaf axil so far
flower size is around 3cm in diameter
bloom simultaneously per different layers of axil
pointed, few silver veining in the center of foliage
16 inches height in a 4 inches pot
upright, a medium to tall cultivar
When doing the cross of mini-Sinningia, I look for the balance proportion of the cultivar instead of single character/pattern achievement. These red mini-sinningias may not be the reddest that I have, but they are those that I will keep as the parentage for next red generation.
Just some of my own collections in the balcony. Summer is coming .....
Have you seen a Sinn. guttata like this ? I got it long time ago from a friend (maybe it was self seedling, not sure). When I first saw its bloom, I knew this one is a bit special but since I did not pay much attention to large size Sinningias before, so I just put it in 3 inches pot. Finally I have enough space to settle it down, and the pay back is what you can see. :-)
My friend Mr. Stone got a lot of the miniature Sinningia seedings, and he also grows them well. So now we see plenty bloomers. Super !!!
